Jersey City is famous!
How do we know? The city has been filmed in multiple award winning and cult favorite films. From alien invasions to mob stories Jersey City has seen it all.
Here are three iconic movie scenes filmed in Jersey City.
Men in Black (1997)
Remember that scene where Will Smith’s character , Agent J, is trying to deliver an alien baby only to be gripped by a strange tentacle and slammed against the car several times? Believe it or not, that scene was filmed right here in Jersey City at Liberty State Park. You can even see the World Trade Center in the background and a sign pointing to the New Jersey Turnpike.
Joker (2019)
Did you know the largest film production in Jersey City actually occurred during the filming of the 2019 film, “Joker,” starring Joaquin Phoenix?
The movie, directed by Todd Phillips, includes scenes filmed at Low’s Theatre and William H. Brennan Hall. If you were in the area during the filming, you likely even saw prop police cars and clowns walking to the set area.
The Godfather (1972)
Of course, you can’t talk about movies filmed in Jersey City without talking about The Godfather. While the Bronx Tale may have featured a boxing scene at The Armory, Mario Puzo’s mafia epic features our own Liberty State Park.
In the well remembered scene when Paulie Gatto is, well, removed from the family, you can actually see Lady Liberty herself in the background.
